2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Comes After Mixed Feedback

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified staff about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a clearer direction.

The president stated that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

The news mirrors a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the complete message from Ismailer's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative developers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was informative. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a sharper brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to mind and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our fans.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. After several months of talks, he starts with us on the specified date.

His guidance and background in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having spent the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known series in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in greeting him soon. We are all excited to persist seeing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.

David

The upcoming game was unveiled in October 2024 alongside a community playtest. Then, 31st Union described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling advancement on the style."

"Challenge the opponents with new abilities, risks, and obstacles that shift every round. Do you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, put it on the line, and trust your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."

Project Ethos does not have an announced release date or consoles, but players can expect more updates as creation advances.
